In the summer of 2010, Microsoft made news by giving more than 90,000 Windows Phone 7 phones for staff. Not too long after, there were reports that Dell is planning a similar move. Word on the street is that the company will relocate its employees to 25,000 lines of smartphones, himself gave them all the features of Windows Phone 7 place Pro in exchange for handing over their BlackBerrys.
Although it is clear why Dell wants all employees using the Dell-branded phones, the company said that the button will also help keep costs down, too. CFO Brian Gladden said when that company will work with T-Mobile to hash out an agreement that will allow Dell to buy minutes and large amounts of data instead of buying the individual plans for employees. The button itself will eliminate the need for BlackBerry server, save 25 percent of the cost of communications from Dell.
Although it sounds like a wonderful plan, switch does not go quite as fast as one might think. However, it seems still trundling along at a fairly steady pace. Chief Information Officer WMPowerUser CITES global Dell Robin Johnson as Australia (subscription required) says that the company has replaced more than 50 percent of the approximately 30,000 BlackBerrys worldwide with Dell's own Windows phone.
Dell used to be "100 percent BlackBerry store", Mr. Johnson said, adding that the switch has allowed the company to manage costs and drive innovation. Johnson did not give any indication as to when the button will be complete. Dell has yet to release a follow up to the Pros, which may be a problem when the Pros getting a little long in the tooth.
